Auxilium School Kanakakkunnu began the children’s day celebration and campaign against child abuse with a rally from Auxilium School to Kanakakunnu city on November 14, 2014. The children were tied with orange ribbons around their heads and in their hands they had colourful flags. Few students were dressed up as Jawaharlal Nehru, as we keep up his birthday.. The rally was led by Sr.Regina, the School Manager and Sr.Smitha, the Principal.
The children were motivated about the need of raising their voices against various kinds of child abuse which is very common in the society today. The whole Auxilium campus was enthusiastic to make the rally beautiful and meaningful. The banner in front of the rally spoke the purpose of it. It was read “Campaign against child abuse”. Behind this along with the flags children carried placards with many slogans like:
“If you save us now…………….
We shall save the future………”
The people gathered around the city were very happy, even some of them distributed sweets to the students. The rally continued about an hour. It was a memorable day for the Auxilium School, Kanakakunnu. The Parish Priest, Fr. Sebastian Vadakkel and Sr. Regina addressed the gathering. Father stressed in his message that they are very dear to us, and they are the builders of the future. After the rally the sisters and teachers distributed sweets for the children. The teachers wished them “Happy Children’s Day” with various entertainment programmes. At the end they were shown a half an hour tele film about child labour.
A seminar was organized by Sr. Smitha on the topic of “Good touch and Bad touch”. A documentary film on “My Body belongs to me” was shown and explained. After that we had a good interaction with the children. We explained to them ‘How to recognize good touch and bad touch and how to protect our body from abuse’.
The children were very eager to hear and they had many doubts to ask us. The teachers who interacted with the children asked the school management to conduct again like these awareness programme for the children. It is really a need of time.
