Mrs. Helen Benedict
The pandemic and its resulting wave of isolation and economic uncertainty have taken their toll. Hit hard by the pandemic Mrs. Helen Benedict and her husband lost their jobs. Resident of a small village in Koppa in Mysore District of Karnataka, Mrs. Helen looked into stimulus loan options provided by interest free refund loan of CDEW as she was a member of a Self – Help Group and had her personal savings. With additional loan facility she initiated a Purified Drinking Water Unit as the village does not have safe drinking water facility. Her husband supported her in this new venture. Joyfully, she said, “I could see the possibility of providing safe drinking water to earn my living amidst the adversity caused by COVID-19 and also to fulfil the need of the people of our Village”. At present she is able to provide 500 litres of water every day at a very minimum rate of Rs. 10/- for 5 litres. Her average income is Rs. 1,000/- per day. JORDAN Mineral water, as it is called now, is a blessing for Mrs. Helen’s family and the village.
