Yes, it was the International women’s Day. We wanted to bring to light the atrocities done against women and girls. 10 schools from Chandur, women groups of Italia Solidale, other social welfare groups and the Bosco Seva Kendram women’s groups of Salesian fathers joined in the Mega Rally The Mega Rally was inaugurated by Sri. Mr. N. Rajesh, SI, Chandur. He waved the flag and opened the Rally. The slogans of 700 people and students filled the town. They too joined us in saying “Say no to trafficking of girls and women”. In the Heart of the town Mrs. Pamela & Smt. K. Parijatham, Sarpanch of Chandur spoke about the Atrocities done to the women and how we need to respect women and girls, the whole town stood still to support the women.
After the procession we gathered in Maria Niketan English medium school, where we had the messages by our Sarpanch Smt. K. Parijatham Janardhan, Smt. M. Prameela Correspondent of Sneha Public School, Sr. Bridget, our Superior, Smt. Padua, Swayam Kyushu Secretary and Sr. Prameela, the Italia Solidale in charge. The cultural programmes given by the various schools were really awesome and heart touching, especially how the girls are ill-treated by the society and family and the child marriages.
The guest spoke about Women’s rights, need for equality, facing the challenges with courage, how to prevent child marriages, Nirbhaya chatted etc… The women and girls were keen in listening and understanding. We were also happy that other school teachers and animators too joined to make this event a success full one. .
